About Bellflower
Bellflower is located within Los Angeles County, California. It is a suburban setting within the county whose roots were large plots of agricultural land and dairy farms. The city received its name from the “bellefleur” apple that had been grown in the area’s orchards in the early 1900’s. The name translates from French to English as “beautiful flower”. Bellflower was known as the production center for apples and milk in Southern California and was primarily settled by people of Dutch, Japanese and Portuguese descent during the early settlement days. In the 1940’s, the city's population surged with many homes, apartments and schools built to serve the community. The city became incorporated in 1957, which provided a new range of civic opportunities.
